My cuties in Mexico!

Oh, how I love Mexico!  We enjoyed a heavenly family getaway there last month and relished every moment. I was disconnected…no email or voicemail for 12 days?! and completely relaxed.  What could possibly be better than sitting by the ocean for almost 2 weeks?  Cameron and Jasmine didn’t have any fun at all as you can clearly see in these snaps below….

Danielle

Newborn photo sessions are tricky. Often little tiny babies are drowsy or squished and pimply and it’s difficult to capture them alert or looking at the camera.

Danielle is only a couple of weeks old and she was unbelievably PRESENT when I arrived to photograph this amazing time. She looked right at me! She had expressions and even smiles. I was so excited. The more I sang to her, the more animated she became. Watch out world!

I had the pleasure of photographing her mom, Tricia, when she was 9 months pregnant, and we’ll do another session in a few weeks. What an honor to document these precious stages….

Precious Ruby

Precious Ruby melts my heart!  I got to meet her incredible mom Alison for a maternity photo session a few months ago when she was days from giving birth, on bedrest at the hospital.  She was glowing and so excited for Ruby’s arrival.  This month I had the honor of photographing Ruby’s amazing little smirks and smiles before her baptism.  Her grandmother and aunt joined us for some family shots…what a treat to capture 3 generations.  I look so forward to photographing your delicious cheeks again sometime!

Chase

Check out this little dreamboat!  Chase is such a delight. He’s a charmer and a snugglebug.  I ventured over to Marin and up and down twisty woodsy streets to meet him and his fantastic folks in their gorgeous Marin home for his first photo session!  What a handsome prince. :)

Penelope and Nicholas

I met precious Penelope and energetic Nicholas at Central Park in San Mateo a couple of few weeks ago.  The Japanese Garden wasn’t yet open, but there were lots of giggles as we explored the trees, gazebo and playground  on a sunny morning!  Thanks, guys!

Heather Forbes Baby & Children’s Photography turns 5!

Heather Forbes Baby and Children’s Photography is 5 years old!

It all started in the beginning of 2004, at a little desk/changing table(!?) in a one-bedroom apartment in NYC, with my 3 month old son Cameron in my arms….desperate to not return to my corporate job and appropriately enraptured with my squishy bundle, could I dust off my photography passion and education and launch a business??  I became consumed with capturing his every expression.  I was infatuated with his reactions (wide open eyes! a yawn! excessive drool! was that a wink?  He winks!?) and my (uncanny!) ability to patiently shoot my beloved in the best light WITH the best giggle AND the most adorable baby ensemble.

That was me, deliriously pre-occupied in my trite post-partum pursuit to get the perfect (or not so perfect!) baby photograph with a genuine eye twinkle—not posed, not stale and most importantly, not shot in a studio!

5 yrs later and over a thousand babies and children later….I’m still giddy and delighted when a 3 yr old wants to spin around in a pink tulle dress and wand….for me(!) when a newborn gazes at me through sleepy eyes as I sing ‘you are my sunshine,’ when a toddler runs behind a tree and challenges me to chase him.  I never went back to the corporate world, and I upgraded my gear and mastered lullabies and age-appropriate tricks that garner just the right smirk or belly laugh….

I love being invited to homes to meet doting grandparents, jealous pets, sleepy new moms and dads gathered around a new arrival and delivering images that will be remembered and cherished and shown at a now 6-week old’s engagement party on a big screen 26 yrs from now…or framed on mommy’s desk at work, or in a brag book for grandma’s purse…..because this stage is so fleeting…..and they will look soooo different just 6 months from now!  And the pursuit continues!

I’m grateful for my incredibly rewarding job that allows me to be creative, have fun and learn so much. And so very thankful for my son Cameron and daughter Jasmine who inspire my work even when they insist on their best grumpy face when I take my camera out!  And my sublime husband, Steve, who is also my very valuable web-optimization and bookkeeping department.  :)

Iris and Jasper

Iris and Jasper are some of my favorite subjects!  We always have so much fun. These were taken before the holidays in their beautiful backyard in Alamo…east of San Francisco. Love the festive and traditional holiday wear! And love the family shots…
